Locust Valley NY Yellow Pages

Locust Valley is a hamlet in on the North Shore of Long Island in the town of Oyster Bay. The unincorporated hamlet is home to 3,521 people according to the 2,000 census. The first settlers of the area were the Algonquin tribe known as the Matinecock. Captain John Underhill made land deals with the Matincock Indians in 1667 at which time he founded Buckram. The area kept this name until 1856 when the name was changed to Locust Valley due to the locust trees that dot the countryside. The Long Island Rail Road came shortly after the name change along with a commercial center. At the end of the 20th century, Locust Valley became home to polo fields, horse farms, executive estates, and private clubs.

Locust Valley Central School District serves the area with Bayville Primary, Ann MacArthur Primary, Locust Valley Intermediate, Bayville Intermediate, one middle school, and one high school. Locust Valley is also home to 2 private schools. The community offers a wide array of shopping adventures, fine dining, banks, and boutiques. The majority of the shopping is around the Plaza mall close by the railroad station. The most popular attractions in Locust Valley are the Locust Valley Library and the Planting Fields Arboretum State Historic Park. The library is the oldest building in the area while the state park offers a wide array of things to do and see.
